Mill Farm Eco Barn Norfolk Adventure – Spencer’s ARC Travels

Our travels last week took us to the Norfolk Broads countryside. A little Village on the coast called Winterton-On-Sea.

Our home for the week was a beautiful barn conversion called Mill Farm Eco Barn.

The barn does what it says, its very eco friendly, with rainwater running the washing machine, a biomass under floor heating system, its very own allotment that unfortunately due to the time of year didn’t have anything ready for us to use.

The barn inside is large yet cosy, with a log burner Not that we needed it (It was the hottest bank holiday on record I believe.) As you walk into the main living area you are greeted by a wooden staircase that winds up to the gantry style landing.

The landing looks over the living area and leads to the master bedroom with balcony, twin room with ensuite and the main family bathroom with huge bath and shower.

Downstairs is another 2 bedrooms and one with ensuite and another shower room.

The open plan living area hosts the kitchen area with range cooker, built in fridge and dishwasher. with a breakfast bar separating it from the dinning area that seats 8.

We were so lucky with the weather that during our stay we took the opportunity to have a couple of BBQ’s in the courtyard garden.

We laid the table inside with salad and bread and condiments and opened the trifold doors bringing the outside in!

The area around the barn felt safe enough to let the kids go and explore more or less on their own!

There is a paddock that used to be home to two ponies but unfortunately they had become poorly just before our stay so are no longer there.

Now the paddock is empty the kids could happily run around and burn off any energy  they had left after exploring the nearby attractions.

As we needed a cot for the babies we chose the main bedroom with balcony each morning I would open the curtains and the door that overlook the fields around letting in the fresh morning air.

The host are lovely people and always leave a welcome basket with home made bread and cake as well as local eggs and jam.

The Eco Barn is such a lovely space for an extended family break. There are high chairs, cots, bikes toys and more.

We were talking over breakfast one morning about home nice it would be to rent out all three properties over the Christmas period for our family and celebrate all together in the eco barn!

Having looked up availability its actually already been booked so someone else must have seen its Festive potential too!

We explored loads during our stay however there is so much we haven’t yet seen so are planning our next trip to the Eco Barn.

Spa Membership V’s Public Swimming Pool.

A couple of years ago I became a member of the local spa, I only really use it for the pool. Towards the end of my pregnancy I let my membership lapse. After Christmas I decided to renew it.

A six month membership at Clumber Park Hotel and Spa is currently £225 for 6 months.

If I went to the local pool 3 times a week which I aim to do it would cost £343 for 6 months.

With the added bonus of being able to use the gym facilities and children being able to swim for free from 4pm – 6pm.

The spa pool as a member is open to me from 7am – 9pm 7 days a week.

The public pool has set times that you can swim due to school using it and lessons happening.

I love going swimming at the spa, when you arrive you are greeted by the delicious smell of essential oils, and the sound of relaxing music playing in the background.

I grab a towel. As a member I get to borrow their freshly laundered fluffy towels.

Head to the changing rooms that have under floor heating and again has relaxing music playing in the background.

Once changed I head to the pool take a pool side shower and head for my swim.

I never commit myself to timing lengths or counting lengths. I just swim. Sometimes I swim with no thoughts. Other days I swim and plan my perfect day or plan my week / day.

I went yesterday and after my swim I decided to have 10 mins in the outdoor hot tub.

While I was there a squirrel sat about 2 meters away from me eating.

It’s great at Clumber surrounded by trees with just enough gaps in them to let the sun beam down on sunny days.

There is also a sauna & steam room but I’m not really a fan of those.

On a weekend I often take a little more time when daddy has the kids and have a cuppa in the cafe bar after my swim. I Sit in one of the sofas in a snug area.

I’m totally the spa fan. It’s great for my wellbeing.

Stocking filler ideas with The Sports direct £5 challenge. With BritMums.

The Countdown to Christmas is well and truly on the way with only 1 more paydays left beforehand I really do need to crack on with my shopping!

So when BritMums asked me to take on the £5 Christmas  Gift Challenge I Jumped at the chance.

Armed with a list of people who I need to buy for I set to and headed to the online Christmas gift guide!

There is much more than I thought Sports direct sold.

I loaded my basket with stocking fillers for my kids, along with a gift for a friend of mine who is often found taking selfies.

I hit checkout and was given 3 delivery options, the impatient part of me nearly hit next day delivery, however, I chose the cheaper option of standard it means my Items would still be delivered by the end of the week (3 – 5 working days) Sure enough, it arrived only 4 days later!

My Haul

First up I spotted this Selfie Booth kit for £5 reduced from £15

I had just the friend in mind she is always taking selfies this will be fab for one of her stocking fillers! At £5 it such great value with a selfie stick included in the box which alone retail around the £5 mark. With it is a Bluetooth shutter and a range of props idea for a party photo booth.

With Christmas and two birthdays, fast approaching I’m on the lookout for inexpensive gifts for the kids When I saw these rolling art desks at £5.99 each (so a little over my budget) I had to get them.

My big girl twin is a huge fan of frozen so this will be great for her and the Marvel one I’m sure my Big boy twin will love just as much. When they arrived they were much bigger than I expected and a lot more sturdy. I’m sure they will love these for their birthday! Well worth more than the £5.99 I paid for them.

This will be our new Twins 1st Christmas and they will only be 4 months old so they won’t really realise anything but I think they will need a few gifts from The big Man So these Fisher-Price Teething Rings at just £1 each are amazing value!

Unfortunately, these are no longer on the Sports Direct website however they do have other amazing value gifts on there.

Finally, I bought this Raging Bull Rodeo game reduced from £10 to £5

At first glance, I thought it was great value for £5 however once I opened the box and tried to play with it, the bull didn’t seem to click into place properly so just spun around before any of the items were placed onto the saddle.

All in all, I think I did well on my challenge and there are loads other amazing gift ideas on the website!

Topsy & Tim Back to school book *Review*

If I remember back to my school days I remember some of my favourite books were the Topsy & Tim books.

I even had twin dolls.

So when I was blessed with my very own Topsy & Tim I started them watching the series on TV and bought any books I could find!

A few weeks ago I was contacted to ask if I would like to review a copy of the Topsy and Tim learning books from Ladybird. I jumped at the chance.

20161001_151930.jpg

My twins started full time school in September and they are currently starting work on a phonics program called read write inc.

When I picked up these books to go through them with my two I was pleased to see they actually work hand in hand with their school work.

The first spellings book is great for handwriting as well as learning sounds.

J is not normally interested in writing but even he found this book fun. He even sounded out some of the words I thought he may struggle with.

It’s a great little book and it’s wipe clean so both children could have a go and they can do it over and over again!

The Topsy & Tim first words book has a little more advanced words in than we can recognize  at the moment but we still had fun sticking in the stickers.

M enjoys learning and loved guessing words by the first couple of letters.

The books are designed in a way that school children can relate to when first starting school. Within them are activities revolving around getting dressed, starting school and making friends. Daily school routines like lunch & lining up!

In the package we also received a Peppa Pig book – Peppa Pig – Going Swimming.

The book is designed for children just starting to read.  There are a few words that the children can sound out and a few words mine knew anyway like mummy & daddy.

All the Topsy and Tim books can be found online at https://www.penguin.co.uk

There is also a Topsy and Tim start school app that can be found in the App Store.

If your little ones are starting school soon or have just started I would recommend these books.

I was sent the books in exchange for a review. All the opinions however are my own.

Cuppa Of The Week – (1) ChilliPetals

Welcome to this brand new series

chrissieduncan

Each week I will be posting all about my favorite cuppa of the week.

This past week my favorite cuppa goes to ChilliPetalsSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

ChilliPetals Is a coffee shop with gift shop & florist’s , based in a former Hotel in a small village called Tuxford.

Today I took the children to school and headed out to a local coffee shop for a coffee & a slice of toast.

The shop is bright yet cosy. I sat in a comfy bucket seat by the window but I have been before and sat in one of the sofa areas. It’s such a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy a coffee and a chat.

My coffee came – it was amazing after what seemed like the longest summer holidays to sit and enjoy a quiet cuppa made for me.

My cuppa today – A tall one shot latte, creamy and frothy went down a treat.

I managed to connect to the WiFi and do a little social media catch up!

After my toast and cuppa I had a browse around the gifts – There was a 50% sale on some of the items so I picked up a few things for Christmas gifts.

Then off to pay – Quite reasonable prices

I was tempted to stay for lunch as the soup that day smelt amazing.

There’s always another time!
