Wicked Wednesday – Mums Day Off

This weeks Wicked Wednesday is a little different!

Last week I packed the kids off to Summer School and headed off to the seaside with a friend of mine.

I felt a little guilty not taking my kids to the seaside. However I tried  hard to have a good day.IMG_0297

We went for a walk around had Ice cream & even visited the seals and penguins at the seal sanctuary

I stood for a moment watching the seals swim around and thought how nice it was to be able to just watch them without having to watch two children as well. without the constant whines of “mummy j has done this….” Or “mummy can we have an ice cream now?”

I thought how nice it was to take time out for me.

We then headed for dinner before going to the theatre the one reason for us being there to see Joe Pasquale.

When I got home I was shattered but I had enjoyed my day off.

The kids were in bed but I still gave them a kiss and told them I love them.

The next morning when they woke I gave them big cuddles and they gave me cuddles back I had missed them. We were all grateful I think for the day off.

Screen Free Weekends- Crochet

Hi all,

I mentioned in my Fitness Friday post that  I missed last weeks post due as I was lone parenting and it I had a busy week, I do have a plan for scheduling so that i don’t miss weeks when “life happens”

Anyway back to Screen Free

Last weekend as hubby was away i still struggled with screen free all day – In fact the kids woke up and I let them have their tablets for a while!

However I have cut down screen time throughout the week –

I have replaced nighttime googling & Instagram surfing with a new hobby

I bought some wool and and a crochet hook and I tried my hand at crochet again!

IMG_0328.JPG

I’m not great at it and the bit I’ve done as a wonky edge – But my plan is to have a blanket for winter

Though it has stopped me from picking up my phone as much at night!

So back to the weekend!

After we had put down the tablets we headed out for breakfast! then off to grandmas and did a bit of blackberrying.

Sunday Daddy was home and we just had a lazy day.

Check out next week to see how we get on with the next Screen Free Weekend!

Fitness Friday.Walking, Stress & ECG

Good morning, Its time for fitness Friday again.

I missed last week due to lone parenting and school holidays – But fear not I am back this week and I now have a plan for scheduling. ( That will be another blog post)

So where am I at?

  • Well the past 2 week I’m still only averaging around 5000 steps
  • I Have been swimming twice a week.
  • I have managed more outdoor time!

Today I have the heart monitor I mentioned in the last Fitness Friday post

IMG_0316[1]

Funnily enough the flutters have actually calmed down a lot now – So i think it was probably the anxiety!

I am trying to make changes to my day to cut down the stress I feel and generally make me healthier.

Goals for the future!

  • Still trying for the 10,000 steps
  • Drink more water
  • Take vitamins each day
  • Swim three times a week
  • Yoga at least 4 times a week
  • Night time meditation instead of TV

When I get back the results from this ECG (monitor) I will be creating a better plan for my physical fitness – I may try and get back into the couch to 5k. Running is so good for the feel good chemical – Dopamine and Serotonin.

Anyway that’s the update I have for you this week.img_78691.jpg

See you next week when I have my results back.

What the WI Means To Me

As I am packing for my camping trip with the girls I get to thinking about the WI and what it means to me.

I, together with three other friends, joined our local WI in the May of 2015. We joined after seeing it advertised in the local newsletter. When we arrived that first night we were welcomed with open arms and we soon felt comfortable with the other ladies. We are classed among our WI as “The Young Un’s”

That first meeting we really didn’t know what to expect and when we had gone through the ‘business” of that month I think we were even more confused. The “business” is generally a run through of last month’s meeting minutes, the secretary reading out any correspondence she feels we may be interested in, she often finds things that she deems too boring to read out but leaves everything out on the table for us to read anyway. (She is not afraid to tell us what she thinks).

Then there is a speaker or workshop – This can range from a talk from a charity about guide dogs to belly dancing for all abilities.

We had only been members for a couple of months when we spotted an “unofficial WI camp” Tea & Tents – It was to be held at a campsite not far from where we live so we jumped ummed and ahed at the prospect of spending 2 nights away from the children.

The camp was great – a mixture of all things WI, along with activities that most members have probably never heard of, Craft activities, yoga, even activities on site like swimming in the lake and tomahawk throwing. There was also an afternoon tea provided, scones with clotted cream and jam with a nice mug of tea to wash it down.

A year on from that, and I’m packing up for me second Tea & Tents camp and us “Young Un’s” are now part of the committee helping with the planning of the calendar for next year. We can even get through most of the ‘business’ (meeting) and know what’s going on!

I’m so not what you would think of as a WI member – I’m not the model housewife, I buy packet cake mixes, and my craft skills are still that of a 5-year-old, but do you know, what I fit in.

I fit in because although the WI is known for its craft competitions, baking and of course Jam Making – I like many other members, I love meeting new people, taking part in the activities and of course, the Tea & Tents!

Wicked Wednesday – Is It worth The effort?

On Sunday we went to the new splash pool in our town.

It was a treat for the kids. We arrived and They were really excited. I put on thier swimming gear and covered them in sunscreen  and off they went.

I was just starting to relax and praise myself for surprising my munchkins with this treat when……

(Insert Whiney voice) “Mummy I don’t want to stay here” “mummy I’m cold” ” I want an ice cream”

Aghhhh we had been there less than 10 mins.

You know when you think something is a good idea but getting out of the house was stressful enough. Then you arrive and think it was all worth it. Well yeh for 5 mins maybe.

I got them dressed again they had a little play on the dry play park then we headed for the icecream van. Then to the shop to pick up a little picnic.

After this they were ready to go back in the splash area.

Do you know what they loved it this time around.

Maybe it was worth it after all.
